WACO, Texas – The University of Central Oklahoma is receiving votes in the 2018 American Football Coaches Association Preseason Top 25 announced Monday.
The Bronchos are coming off an 8-4 season and bring a six-game win streak into the new year. Seventh-year head coach Nick Bobeck said it’s good to earn some recognition, but added that nobody has played any games yet.
“You like to see that your team is being recognized, but we haven’t played a game yet,” Bobeck said. “We’ve only had a week of practice. We have a lot of work to do to get ready for Week 1. But we are excited. It’s a good thing for these young men to be recognized for their work.”
Central won seven of its final eight last season including the final six games. The Bronchos beat Tarleton State in the inaugural Corsicana Bowl, the third bowl game in four seasons for the Bronchos. Bobeck has led his alma mater to two bowl wins in the past three seasons.
UCO returns five starters on offense, including former All-American running back Clay McKenzie, who has over 2,600 yards rushing in his career. The Bronchos have nine starters back on defense.
Central Oklahoma opens the 2018 season on Aug. 30 at Pittsburg State. The Bronchos’ home opener is Sept. 6 against Nebraska-Kearney.
