EVERETT, Wash. – The University of Central Oklahoma rowing team was well represented on the list of postseason award winners announced Friday by Pocock Racing.
The 2018 Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association All-American teams as well as the coach and staff of the year honors were announced and the NCAA Division II national champion Bronchos landed a slew of distinctions.
Trista Cripe, Megan Dwarshuis and Baylee Roberts all earned First Team All-America recognition while Andrea Messenger earned Second Team honors. Head rowing coach Montia Rice was named Division II Coach of the Year and UCO also earned DII Staff of the Year.
“This is really a great nod to the entire UCO rowing program,” Rice said. “For the ladies that work so hard to be honored for that is special for them, and for the staff to be recognized is special for us too. We are all very honored.”
Cripe now becomes a two-time All-American selection, having earned Second Team honors in 2017. She is the third Broncho in program history to have been selected twice.
Central, with its four selections this year, has now had 15 student-athletes earn All-American honors a combined 18 times. This is the first time a UCO coach has earned the top honor in the NCAA.
Central Oklahoma won the 2018 NCAA Division II national championship after a dominating year on the water. The Bronchos earned wins over almost every nationally ranked boat before grabbing the top seed at nationals. After a silver medal finish in the Varsity 4 race, the Bronchos put together won of the most impressive Varsity 8 races of the season in crushing their opponents to a gold medal finish and the program’s first national championship.
