TULSA– University of Tulsa volleyball student-athletes Emily Thorson and Taylor Horsfall were named to the preseason all-conference team, the league announced today.
The honors mark the fifth and sixth TU athletes to be named to the prestigious American Athletic Conference preseason list, and just the second time the Golden Hurricane have had two players named to the same preseason team.
Thorson, a senior outside hitter, was one of six unanimous selections on the list. Her 525 kills led the American, while earning the sixth most in program history in a single season.
She led the country in total attacks with 1,710, while ranking third in the NCAA in attacks per set with 13.68. Thorson was a six-time American Weekly Honor Roll selection.
Horsfall is coming off a stellar sophomore season that saw her earning the title of American Athletic Conference Libero of the Year. Her first team all-conference honor was the first of her career. Horsfall set a single-season record for both the conference and Tulsa with 755 digs, which ranked her second in the NCAA.
She boasted 6.04 digs per set, which set a program single-season record, led the conference and slotted her sixth in the nation in the category. Horsfall started all 32 matches last season, adding 126 assists, 29 points, 26 service aces and three kills.
Both Thorson and Horsfall earned first team all-conference nods in the 2017 season.
As a team, Tulsa volleyball was picked to finish sixth overall in the preseason coaches’ poll. The first match is scheduled for Aug. 24 against Bowling Green in West Lafayette, Indiana.
