TULSA–The Tulsa Golden Hurricane volleyball team will play 11 matches against 2017 postseason tournament teams, as the 2018 Hurricane volleyball schedule was announced today.
Tulsa will face 13 teams with winning records last season, including 10 teams that had 20 or more wins. Of the 11 postseason tournament teams on the Tulsa schedule, four teams –– Purdue, East Tennessee State, Marquette and conference foe Wichita State – played in the NCAA Championship, while another seven opponents participated in the National Invitational Volleyball Championship, including Oral Roberts, Illinois State, North Texas and conference opponents UCF, Temple and twice against SMU.
The Hurricane begin the season at the Purdue Mortar Board Premier on Friday-Saturday, August 24-25, in West Lafayette, Indiana. Tulsa will face Mid-American East Division co-champion Bowling Green first, then Wofford in the second Friday match. Tulsa finishes the weekend on Saturday with a matchup against host Purdue.
After an appearance at the Bruiser Showcase, hosted by Belmont University, in Nashville, Tennessee (Aug. 31-Sept. 1), the Hurricane returns home to host the Tulsa Volleyball Invitational, Sept. 7-8. Tulsa will play Oral Roberts, Abilene Christian and Northwestern State in its home tournament.
Tulsa will play in the Marquette Invitational in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Sept. 14-15, before beginning American Athletic Conference play a week later, as the Hurricane will play its first two of 18 league matches.
Tulsa opens conference play with home matches against Memphis (Sept. 21) and Tulane (Sept. 23), before stepping out of conference for its final non-conference match against 2017 NIVC participant North Texas.
The Hurricane jumps back into league play with its first of two matches against defending American champion Wichita State, when the Shockers visit the Donald W. Reynolds Center on Sept. 29.
Tulsa will play Memphis, Tulane, UCF and USF only once this season, while home-and-home matchups will come against Wichita State, Cincinnati, ECU, Houston, SMU, Temple and UConn.
The month of November will see Tulsa play five road games and two home contests. Tulsa closes out the regular season with three straight road games at UConn (Nov. 16), Temple (Nov. 18) and Wichita State (Nov. 21).
