WEATHERFORD–First-year head coach Chet Pobolish will welcome the Southwestern Oklahoma State University football team to campus on Sunday before leading the Bulldogs through the start of fall camp Monday at ASAP Energy Field.
Pobolish and his coaching staff will lead the team through 20 practices leading up to the ASAP Kickoff Classic on Aug. 30, against Arkansas-Monticello. The Bulldogs will have two weeks of practice under their belt by the time the fall semester begins at SWOSU on Aug. 20.
The team will also go through media day on Aug. 19, which includes the taking of team, group and individual photos.
“At the end of spring practice, we asked the kids if they wanted to be here and be successful and they responded,” Pobolish said. “I would estimate we had between 60-70 kids here all summer, putting in the work and that gives them a chance to be better. We’ve also got a lot of new faces coming in, so this fall camp is going to be just as challenging from a mental standpoint as it will be physically.”
Pobolish enters his first season as the head coach at SWOSU in 2018 after being appointed to the position back in November. This is the first head coaching position for Pobolish, who has 17 years of coaching experience at both the NCAA Division II and Football Championship Subdivision (FCS), having most recently served as the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Missouri Western State University during the 2017 season.
SWOSU opens the season with the ASAP Kickoff Classic against Arkansas-Monticello on Aug. 30 – the first of six home games for the Bulldogs during the 2018 season. Other key dates include parents day against Southern Arkansas (Sept. 15), SWOSU Saturday against Oklahoma Baptist (Oct. 27) and homecoming against Northwestern Oklahoma State (Nov. 10).
