NORMAN — USA Softball announced Friday that Oklahoma’s Paige Lowary has been added to the United States’ second national team roster for the International Cup, held July 9-15 in Irvine, California.
Lowary will join the U.S.’s Japan All-Star Series roster that competed earlier this month. The team will be led by Oklahoma head coach Patty Gasso, and OU associate head coach Melyssa Lombardi will serve as an assistant coach at the event.
Lowary recently concluded her collegiate career at Oklahoma, earning All-Big 12 First Team honors during both of her seasons with the Sooners. She is OU’s career leader in saves with 18, including seven in 2018, and ranks seventh all-time in walks allowed per seven innings pitched (1.36).
Last year, Lowary registered a career-best 1.09 ERA, ranking sixth nationally. She combined on one no-hitter and 14 shutouts, serving as one of the best closers in the country.
The Dallas Center, Iowa, native was selected as the No. 1 overall pick in the National Pro Fastpitch draft by the Chicago Bandits. Lowary currently holds a 2-1 record in her rookie campaign, and she leads the NPF with a rate of 12.79 strikeouts per seven innings pitched.
Previously, Lowary was a member of the 2016 USA Softball Women’s Elite Team, 2015 USA Softball Junior Women’s National Team and 2015 USA Softball Women’s Elite Team.
Former Sooner Keilani Ricketts and current OU volunteer assistant coach Janie Reed will also compete at the International Cup as members of the U.S.’s World Championship roster.
Select USA games will air on ESPN Networks, while remaining contests will be streamed online for free. More information on the USA Softball International Cup can be found here.
