Messinger named acting NSU football head coach

TAHLEQUAH – Rob Messinger will serve as Northeastern State’s acting head coach for the remainder of the season Director of Athletics Tony Duckworth announced Wednesday afternoon.

Messinger has been a member of the NSU football coaching staff since the 2014 season and is in the midst of his second season as assistant head coach. In his first three seasons at NSU, Messinger was in charge of the team’s secondary and served as special teams coordinator.

“Following a conversation with Rob Robinson yesterday regarding his notification of non-renewal, he chose to communicate the notification to his staff and team,” said Duckworth. “Coach Robinson asked to meet with me this morning, and he requested that he not coach the remaining two games of the season. The University will honor Robinson’s request.”

“I appointed Rob Messinger as acting head football coach for the remainder of the 2018 season. I have met and informed the football student-athletes prior to today’s practice.”

Northeastern State will face Central Oklahoma this Saturday in its home finale at 3 p.m.
