OKLAHOMA CITY– Energy FC and Fresno FC played to a 0-0 draw Wednesday evening at Taft Stadium.
Each team came into the match riding streaks of their own. Energy FC was unbeaten in seven straight, while Fresno came in winners of three straight where they’d scored 10 goals.
Nearly everything about the match was even, including shots, fouls and saves.
“I think it was two well-organized, hard-working teams that knew one mistake might cost them dearly,” said Energy FC Head Coach Steve Cooke. “I think we kinda canceled each other out from there. I think we defended very well…as did Fresno. I’d like to think in the first half in particular we created a couple of moments where we could have gotten the decisive goal.”
Defender Drew Beckie knows the team continues to build.
“It’s coming along. We’ve had lots of changes over the last few weeks, but we all know how to defend,” said Beckie. “Atiba and I are getting to know each other better and that helps a lot. Kyle did a great job on the left and Richard Dixon did a great job after being out for a while. We’re proud of the zero, but that was one we want to win.”
The draw extends Energy FC’s unbeaten streak to eight straight matches at 4-0-4 and improves their record in their last 11 matches to 5-2-4. The unbeaten streak is the second longest in franchise history.
Although the team earned a point, The Greens were held scoreless for the first time in 11 games, the second longest streak in franchise history. The last time Energy FC was held without a goal was May 9 at home against Phoenix Rising FC.
Energy FC returns to action Saturday against San Antonio FC at Taft Stadium. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. It’s Military Appreciation night and kids 12-and-under eat free.
