East Central’s Mariah Ewy was named an academic all-American

ADA – East Central University junior Mariah Ewy was named to the Google Cloud Academic All-America Division II Softball Third Team, as selected by the Collegiate Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

The Perry native is one of three players from the Great American Conference to earn a spot on one of the three 11-member teams.

The infielder has a 4.00 GPA in biology was named to both the 2017 and 2018 Google Cloud CoSIDA Academic All-District 7 team and was a 2018 All-GAC Honorable Mention team selection and a GAC Elite Scholar-Athlete, given to those with the highest GPA participating in the GAC Tournament.

She has been a starter for the Tigers since her freshman season and has been on the ECU President’s List all-six semesters.

Ewy recorded a .324 batting average in 2017, with 34 hits, 19 runs, three doubles and 17 RBIs. She went 2-for-3 in stolen base attempts and garnered 79 putouts and 105 assisted outs.

Ewy becomes the fourth student-athlete from ECU softball to earn All-America honors and is the seventh for the Tigers in school history. She joins softball’s Emily Kennemer (2012 First) and Autumn Suydam (2016 First/2015 Second), soccer’s Deanna Rudasill (2016 Third), football’s Courtney Karner (2003 Second), Ashley Cardwell from women’s golf (Women’s At-Large 2013, Second) and baseball’s Nick Spini (2015 Second) as Academic All-Americans.
