Bulldog track & field garners academic recognition

NEW ORLEANS, La. – All-Academic Team honors for the 2017-18 NCAA Division II Indoor and Outdoor Track & Field seasons were announced by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) on Thursday.

For the first time in program history, Southwestern Oklahoma State University track and field was among the group of teams honored for their academic performance by the USTFCCCA. The Bulldogs were one of 216 NCAA Division II teams to receive the honor and one of 132 women’s teams with the distinction.

“To be one of 132 Division II Women’s Track & Field programs to win this award is a testament to these athletes’ dedication towards their academic success,” Head Coach Shane Brookshire said. “I’m very proud of the work these ladies have accomplished both on the track and in the classroom.”

SWOSU Track & Field finished their second season of competition with an eighth-place finish at the Great American Conference Championships in April. The Bulldogs maintained a Team GPA of 3.21 for the year to earn the program’s first academic honor. SWOSU has previously earned All-Academic Team honors for the Cross Country program in 2014, 2015 and 2016.
